Evolution wasn’t just shaped by survival of the fittest — it was powered by poop. The Cambrian explosion, which gave rise to most animal groups we know today, may have been fueled by fecal pellets carrying nutrients into the deep ocean. In other words, without poop, complex life might never have thrived. We’ve been underrating one of nature’s most unglamorous forces.
