**Mumbai’s “aggressive” grey langur rescued after months of complaints**
A grey langur accused of charging at pedestrians and motorists in Mumbai’s Andheri West has finally been rescued after months of failed attempts.
The adult male langur was captured around 12:30 am on Wednesday near the Andheri RTO by wildlife rescuers from NGO RAWW and the Maharashtra Forest Department.
Officials are now investigating claims that people had been feeding the langur alcohol and soft drinks. Blood samples may be tested for traces of alcohol to determine whether substance exposure contributed to its aggressive behaviour.
According to Honorary Wildlife Warden Pawan Sharma, the langur may have become separated from its troop following territorial conflicts. It is believed to have charged at around 15 people over the past two to three months, although no serious injuries were reported.
The animal had reportedly been seen frequently around a differently abled man who was believed to be feeding it, and allegedly became aggressive when others approached him.
The rescue took several attempts, with the langur repeatedly avoiding a trap cage.
The incident has also sparked debate online, with many users questioning whether the animal’s behaviour was exaggerated and condemning those accused of feeding it alcohol.
The case has once again raised concerns over human interference with wildlife and the dangers of feeding wild animals inappropriate substances.
